Martin

Suddenly he heard it. Behind him he could clearly hear a shot.
Turning slowly, he found a falling object next to him. Everything in his body told him to run but he was too scared.
He looked at the body next to him. Lying in a pool of blood, he stretched his arms and legs away from him. Since he was lying on his back, Martin could look directly into the man's frightened face. The dead man seemed to be looking at Martin. His eyes were wide open, as was his narrow mouth. A gaping wound over the right eye, however, distracted Martin from the rest of the man.
A chill ran through him as the blood reached his shoe. Still in shock, he hadn't moved an inch. Some people around him had started screaming and crying, others had thrown themselves on the floor, and still others looked around in confusion. Only one person seemed to know what was happening and seem to be in control of the situation. She was standing a few meters behind Martin, still holding the weapon threateningly in her hand. But the still smoking run was now directed at Martin. The fear was written on his face, but the shock did not let go of him. His breathing was getting heavier and heavier, but he still couldn't move again.
An oppressive silence fell on the room. Apart from Martin and the person behind him, everyone was now on the floor, trembling for their lives. The person fired another shot, which was supposed to tell Martin to lie down too. But Martin made no effort to duck.
He could hear the person behind him screaming something, but his ears seemed deaf to the meaning of the words.
His whole body resisted the thought of turning and looking the person in the face. Again the one behind him screamed, but this time she sounded angrier but also more nervous.
She fired another shot. But this time Martin couldn't find where the bullet hit ... or if it hit anywhere at all. A few more people around him suddenly started crying and screeching. Then he knew. The person must have shot someone again. But who?
Since he didn't see anyone bleeding in front of him, it had to be whoever was behind him. Yes, wasn't he the last in line?
Then he finally understood. He was shot.
Since his body was not only numb in the way that he could not move, but his sense of touch was also gone, he could not even feel the pain. But now that it was clear to him, he noticed a hole not far above his chest.
He gritted his teeth and put his hand on the hole. Suddenly his eyes went black. There was nothing around him anymore. He couldn't even tell if he was still standing. The only thing he knew was that it would be over any moment. He was scared, but he also felt relieved. He knew that not many would cry for him, but he also knew that it was now too late to change anything.
Now he fell, he fell into a seemingly endless feeling of indifference. And then ... he felt nothing at all
