Vampires 1.0

Felia ...

“That's enough!” Elias shouted.
His powerful voice silenced even the slightest note. Nobody even dared to breathe a little louder.
Even I, who was otherwise not afraid of the big, stocky vampire, was awestruck silence and pushed myself deeper into the corner.
"We all know that this war has lasted forever, and that it will last forever," said Elias, and looked through the huge hall, in which at least 100 dark-clad figures sat, one more beautiful and sullen than the other.
Everyone present had their eyes - all black as night - on the white-haired vampire behind the desk.
But Elias didn't seem to care, because he continued where he had left off, his voice just as strong as before.
"If you imagine that you are the heroes who free us from this curse, you are just as arrogant and stupid as our ancestors. The cemeteries are getting bigger and they all die just because they are such fools! Get away from me off to death, but remember my words when you face the bloodthirsty eyes of a demon. In your last second, think of my words, remember that I warned you! "
I held my breath.
What would the vampires say in return?
The whole room was silent for a minute, then a red-haired man, maybe 150, with wide cheekbones and small eyes called out: "What do you think we should do? Sit here and wait until they find us? you better go first! "
Murmurs of approval filled the hall, the tones, supposed to be as bright as bells, resounded from the marble walls.
A broad-shouldered, owl-like woman stood up, her hair matching her eyes. "Who says we're not the chosen ones? We have to at least try! Better to die and be honored for all of this than to stay here, play nannies and never have achieved anything!"The murmur grew louder.
"What kind of a leader are you who let his troops sit around at home?" Shouted someone who was sitting further back.
"Let them rot, these offspring of hell!"
And now the murmur was no longer a murmur, it was cheering of approval. Fists raised in the air
Chants of battle started, and many apparently thought the fight would start today.
"Be silent!", Elias called, but this time nobody heard him.
Nobody even thought to listen again to the old vampire, who was smarter than any other leader before.
"Let's choose a new leader, one who knows something about fighting!" Was shouted, the gates opened and the vampires streamed out of the marble hall.
Only Elias remained, who pinched the bridge of his nose and sadly shook his head.
Oh and me Felia.
I pushed aside the tapestry, which was so old and baggy that no one had noticed me hiding behind the thing in a corner.
My steps echoed faintly from the walls as I crossed the back of the room and finally stood next to Elias.
He looked exhausted, his old face disfigured by scars and wrinkles, but with the most beautiful, cleverest and wisest eyes I have ever seen.
His navy blue robe showed his wife's dexterity as it was interspersed with a silver embroidery pattern so complex it would take me years to count the ends.
"Master Elias?" I asked softly and politely.
If he ignored me, I knew I was disturbing.
If he would answer me, I would be welcome.
"I should have guessed that you were listening," he said gently, and stroked my head. "You were always a damn curious kid."
"I'm sorry, Master Elias," I said, bowing my head.
"But bad deeds have happened and I want to help."I really wanted that.
I wanted to go to war and protect my family.
Protect the people.
Show the demons what they were: creatures of hell.
I wanted to be a good student of Elias.
But while I was thinking that, I knew I still had a lot to learn.
And that, as Elias had said, I wasn't anything special, any more than any of us.
"You are a good child, Felia."
"Thanks master."
"I'm sorry you had to see this."
"I wanted that myself, master."
"Go home now."
"But I want to talk to you."
Now he looked at me in amazement.
I shook my brown hair behind my shoulders, my eyes wide open, the ghost ready to take in everything I heard.
"What are you going to do now, Master Elias?"
That was the first and, at the same time, the important question that I had on my mind.
I relieved one leg and looked at him inquisitively.
He sighed and smiled slightly.
A few minutes passed while I waited anxiously, but when he didn't answer, I knew I wouldn't get an answer.
At least not today.
Elias straightened his coat, put it over his shoulders, and added with a half smile: "Go home, Felia. Be good and don't disturb your parents."
"Yes, Master Elias."
And with that I left the hall, disappointed, through the back door, which was heavy and elegantly made.
Through this door I got to the rear of the university building, which served as a camouflage.
I walked through the corridors, the stuccoed ceilings that seemed to crush me.
Taking a detour, I passed the library, which was so old that some books were illegible.
I slipped through the library door and disappeared behind a heavily loaded shelf. It was forbidden to be here at that time, but I had never bothered with prohibitions.
I searched the front room but couldn't find the book I wanted to find. The carpet spat out a small cloud of dust with every step I took, and the walls and shelves cracked.
The hazy light of the oil lights showed me the way.
I had to sneak up to the reception desk unrecognized.
There was no one here, but who knew where the mistress of the library was?
She could run into me at any time and ban me from these dusty rooms forever.
The tension was high, at least for me, and I snuck on to check the book lists.
I quickly found what I was looking for thanks to my supernatural vampire eyes. With a grin, I looked at the paper in my hands that was already very thin from being erased and touched.
So I had to go to the back room, the weirdest and most interesting part, which was actually forbidden to me as a minor. But as I said, what did I care about prohibitions?
Still grinning broadly, I crept away, listening to the silence and waiting for a sign from the librarian. But it remained calm.
It took me a while to get there as I was taking safe detours.
But finally I had the gigantic main room behind me. The colorful spines remained behind. The shelves, finished with carvings and gold leaf, gave way to simplicity.
The atmosphere here was strangely unfamiliar and there was an eerie hum in the air. I couldn't make out where it was coming from.
The spines of the book were all plain and in dark or noble tones. Mostly they were silver, black or dark green, but there was also a dark brown one and a whole shelf was full of blood-red books.
They jumped in the eye and made the sweat run down your back.
There was no label on their covers, but I knew I could find the books I was looking for here.
Still listening, I approached the shelf and picked up an old, dusty copy.It was heavier than I thought, and I carried it to the furthest, most hidden table, where I opened it.
It was partially eaten away by bookworms, but otherwise still in good condition.
The first chapter was called "Demons - Offspring of Hell."
I smiled confidently and proudly and started reading.

Demons - spawned from hell

For millennia, the vampire race has been at war with the darkest of all races, the demon race.
A demon's soul is eaten up with hatred and devoid of a spark of light.
As red as her eyes is the anger that dominates her.
They kill for the sheer joy of death and love gruesome and unimaginable games.
Your body consists largely of fire, but not normal fire, no, fire that is supposed to come from hell itself. They are children of the devil and the most terrible creatures that walk the earth.

The rest of the chapter was pretty boring, just things I'd learned in school.
I turned the pages, but this book didn't bring me much new information until I came across the last chapter.
It had a large headline on it warning not to read this if you had the faint of heart.
But my curiosity won and I read on.

[i]How do you kill a demon?

To date, not many vampires have succeeded in killing a demon. They are more bloodthirsty and stronger, so that mostly the vampire loses in the fight.
There are few ways to kill a demon.
The most effective and fastest method is to tear your head off your body and eat the inside.

I paused - that was disgusting! Drinking blood was normal for a vampire, but it was nauseating to ingest something else. Especially that.
With a shudder I read on:

[i]Many shy away from this measure, but the other option is to die yourself and take the demon's body as a spirit. This happens amid the cruelest of pains.
You then have control over the demon, but only for a short time.
One has to kill the demon by acting in order to send one's soul back to hell.
But the vampireist himself is lost and ends up in hell, where he can never be freed out.

This is where the extremely short chapter ended, and with it the book.
I continued to stare at the side and another chill ran through me. I felt a strange tingling sensation on the back of my neck and heard the hum in the air louder than ever.
A strange crackle had made it worse.
And suddenly someone was standing behind me and I let out a bloodcurdling scream.
My pupils widened and my hair stood on my arms.
"AH! LEAVE ME! HELP!"
"Shut up, you foolish child! What are you doing here? It's the middle of the night and the department is forbidden for minors! Get away with it and be sure that your parents know about it! Never leave here look again! "
It was the librarian, and her eyes almost sparkled with anger.
I ran away, still not quite together, and finally fell outside.
I stopped there and looked up at the sky, which was strewn with stars. The moon was a sickle and the wind whispered softly. I sighed and let the shock sink in until it disappeared. Then I slowly
