“What is that?” Ran was amazed when she suddenly discovered a book on her bed. She took a closer look. 'Weird, no title, no author,' she thought. Ran opened the first page and what she read there amazed her even more. `Shinichi Kudo - my son and main character in this book. '
Ran stopped short. What should she think now? And who the hell else sent her this book?
She read the title over again. 'That could only have been written by his father. ´ She read on.
Chapter 1
The meeting
Shinichi was just 5 years old when he met Ran Mori. She was in his parallel class and once she had misplaced her meal allowance. My son found it thanks to his detective skills. If you could call him a detective at the age of 5. I think that was mainly me. I, the crime novelist Yusaku Kudo, had almost every well-known crime novel in my library. A policeman friend of mine would turn to me from time to time when he got stuck in one of the cases. I took my son to the crime scene a few times, but his mother didn't like it. He had often buried himself in his room with a book. So the knowledge that I had learned from many of my crime novels also flowed into my son. He literally devoured her. But that's a whole different story. Now back to Ran Mori, which I mentioned at the beginning. Shinichi and Ran became friends and were together almost every day. Shinichi finally had someone to play with. He, the loner, and she, the shy one. Somehow the two complemented each other. I guess it was like a sandpit love.
Ran blushed when she read this. She just couldn't believe. Why on earth did Shinichi's father write something like that? 'There is only one way to find out. she thought. Exactly, she would call him and confront him.But did she even have the right to do so ??? 'Of course, after all, I'm in the book too. ´ It was boiling in her. She was mad, damn mad. She went out of her room and picked up the phone. Just as she had dialed the number, her father called her to make him something to eat. But she didn't think about it. Ran yelled at Kogoro and disappeared into her room, but she didn't forget to slam the door. Kogoro just looked after her puzzled and shook his head. He got dressed and left the apartment to get some decent food somewhere.
Ran sat on her bed and stared at the phone. Should she or shouldn't she? She decided to stop by Shinichi to ask him if he might know what was going on. She put the book in her pocket, put on her shoes, took her key from the dresser and, like Kogoro a few minutes earlier, left the apartment.
Ran looked at the clock. She had been ringing for almost 10 minutes. "I know that you are at home, Kudo. So please open the door." She was about to give up when Professor Agasa, who has his house next to the Kudos, just left it. "Oh hello Ran. What are you doing here?" he asked her. "Professor, it's good that you are here. Do you happen to know where Shinichi has gone? Actually he should be at home, he said he has nothing to do today. So you know what?" Ran had spoken quickly. Professor Agasa lowered his gaze to the floor. Yes, he knew where Shinichi was. Only, he had promised, that he wouldn't tell Ran anything. However, he also knew that, like in his Conan days, she would be very worried. Ran eyed Agasa intently. 'He knows. But why doesn't he tell me? "Professor! Now tell me where he is. You know that and I'm pretty sure of that. Or has he shrunk again?" Yes, Ran knew about the Conan thing. She was pissed off too. Well not angry, just disappointed beyond measure. Shinichi explained, but left out the love part. "Yes, Ran, I know where he is. But I shouldn't tell you, he wanted to do that himself. Which he certainly didn't do. Otherwise you wouldn't ask now, would you?" "No, he didn't . "Now he disappointed her again. Why doesn't he say he's leaving. This guy was going to drive her crazy, she was sure of that. When there was still silence after a while, she said goodbye to Professor Agasa. She went home but picked up her cell phone on the way. She wanted to call Shinichi and talk to him first, before she hunted down Yusaku. She dialed the number. But what was that? He had turned off his cell phone. Usually he never did that. Then why now? She decided to try again later.
She arrived at the detective agency buckled. She took the book and continued reading where she left off.
The next morning Ran startled. She was lying on the bed with her things from the day before, the book still in her hand. 'I must have fell asleep. she thought. But why did she wake up? 'Oh yes, my cell phone. ´ She took this and saw a text message. ´By Shinichi.´
do not call me Anymore
and don't text me.
The cell phone will be logged off
so you don’t need to
to attempt.
Shinichi.
She stared at her cell phone. What should that mean? Does he want nothing more to do with her? She didn't know. Not even a ´Hello´ or ´bye´. Just those cold words.
