Chapter: Dream of a bygone era

I've been here for two months now and worked as a waitress in a bar, the payment was okay, I just couldn't stand this constant grabbing. "Break up for today, Amber." I nodded and put away everything that was still there. My way led me through a rather remote side street because I only noticed this pain, I let myself sink to the ground. Then I heard footsteps coming from the other end of the alley, the pain was unbearably quiet, I let out noises of pain. The footsteps faded away a little away from me, a soft scream, then that pain again. A rather delicate voice spoke to me. "I'm taking you to a hospital." I didn't even fight back, I just read it. The pain got worse and worse when we got to the hospital. I felt like I wanted to die just to stop feeling this pain. "Tamara ..." I knew her name as well as mine. Tama had been so nice and called an ambulance to get me out of this alley. A doctor and a couple of nurses stood around me and told me what to do, I didn't understand every word but Tamara was here too in this short time I was glad to have met her. My cursing could be heard throughout the room as well as the screaming that escaped me. Some time later this unbearable pain stopped and I only heard a scream that somehow seemed familiar to me but wasn't. "It's a girl." said the doctor handed it to a nurse and she disappeared with the little creatures in her arms. "You'll have her with you soon, Amber." Tamara whispered to me.
The doctor had probably decided to have them cleaned up and only then to hand them over to me, they had brought me to a room, Tama informed me when I was awake again.
"Here is your daughter, Miss." the sister put a small bundle in my arms. The sister left the room and left me alone with Tamara and the little girl."What do you want to call her?" Tama asked me. My look at the little one who wriggled with the little arms, her eyes were the same color as Kai's because I remembered the name of his song that he wrote when we went to middle school. "Tiana Joan ..." I whispered. "A nice name." said Tama and smiled.
Tamara came to the hospital every day as long as I was there. She even decided that I should move in with her so that I didn't have to go through with Tiana on my own. She and I had become friends that was important to me to have her around me, without Tamara I would have had nothing.
My eyelids were heavy when I tried to open them again, but after a while I managed to open them. Tiana lay cuddled up to me and slept, Kai stood by the window and looked outside. Since the bed wasn't too far away from him, I tried to grab his hand, but only touched one of his fingers with a quick movement, he turned around. "Angel ..." he seemed both happy and sad. Kai sat on the edge of the bed, kissed my forehead and hugged me lightly. "Never scare me like that again, Angel." you could hear the fear that resonated in his voice.
A few hours later I was let go with the request that I should take back a little bit so as not to get stressed. In the back seat, Tiana looked very still and seemed to be looking at the area, I did almost the same thing as her, only I thought back to the time without her. My life had changed, I couldn't just do what I wanted without thinking about the consequences, she had changed my thinking about the world and so much more. I looked at Kai and then back to Tiana who had fallen asleep again, my gaze went back to Kai who was driving down the street without words. Absently I grabbed his hand and squeezed it lightly to make sure that he was still there, I noticed that I was still wearing his ring on my finger.
