"Captain! There is an island over there. Shall we moor there?" Called a big, wise, fluffy polar bear, in orange overalls and dark boots, pointing to a small island.
The captain of the Heart Pirates looked examiningly in the direction of the island, his gray eyes scrutinizing them critically.
"Captain?"
"Yes, yes.", Said the black-haired now annoyed. "Then let's take a closer look at the island."
The relatively small yellow submarine-like ship docked near the cliff of the island. The waves lashed mercilessly against the ship and the cliffs, it was breathtaking. But Law and his crew weren't here to admire the forces of nature. They just wanted to replenish their supplies.
"Have a look around if you can find anything usable.", He said in a harsh command tone.
"Yes.", It rang out from his men in chorus and they split up.
A guy named Casquette immediately took a few steps into the thickly overgrown forest, huge trees and plants moving towards the sky in front of him. Thick massive and strong-looking roots stretched over and through the ground, some were overgrown with moss, others less or not at all. And then he saw it in the corner of his eye despite his dark sunglasses.
A small creature scurried over a branch and disappeared into the thicket. But it didn't quite creep away. It eyed the intruder with curious yellow-brown eyes.
"Hey. What are you?" He asked, holding out his hand to the reptile. It looked like a little blue-red salamander, only with small claws on its paws and a small jagged crown around its head.
"Hey Casquette. Did you find something?" Asked another member whose name was big on his cap, Penguin.
When asked, Casquette grabbed the little creature by the tail with a swift movement and held it in front of the penguin 's nose.
"A salamander. How exciting.", He said mockingly and raised an eyebrow. "You're supposed to be looking for something edible, not pets."
Casquette eyed the little purple animal in his hand.
"Don't you think that's edible?"
But Penguin just shrugged.
Suddenly there was a rustling behind them in the bushes, startled they turned towards the rustling and exhaled with relief when a tall man with long shaggy black hair stood in front of them.
They were relieved to see that he had already shot a prey and was holding it in his arms.
"Oh, you've been hardworking, Jean.", Penguin said admiringly.
"Something is wrong here on this island.", He said in his deep voice and looked around examiningly. "It would be as if the trees had eyes."
"If you think so," Casquette said, less impressed, and set off with the salamander in hand. The little animal struggled with all its might, kicked around, scratched and wanted to bite his finger, when the man held him at eye level.
"Let's see what the cook can conjure up with you," he said to the animal.
But suddenly he froze in the middle of walking when a larger creature reared up in front of him. The scaly creature, with the long, stretched body and the dangerous-looking, slightly jagged tail, loomed threateningly in front of him.
"What's going on?" Asked Penguin who had walked into Casquette because it stopped so abruptly. Without a word, he pointed to the huge reptile in front of him.
"Oh ... that's a big salamander."said penguin.
The creature let out a loud threatening cry and now leaned down to the three men. Even when it was on all fours in front of them, it was far bigger than Jean Bart. It looked at the men with its amber-colored, almost yellow eyes. Now they also realized that there were seven protrusions on the head, like horns that curved backwards. That was a monster lizard.
"That's probably his big brother.", Casquette said, still holding the smaller animal in his hands.
But Jean Bart reacted immediately, he dropped the prey and rushed towards the huge lizard, which knocked him away with his clawed paw and tore deep furrows in the ground in front of the men.
Casquette and Penguin leapt back and stood in defense positions.
"Let go of the cattle at last!", Penguin snapped at his comrade, who carelessly dropped the little lizard. Panicked, she quickly crawled under a bush. The big one watched this with a watchful eye and unexpectedly let go of the men.
"What is it now?", The three of them watched, puzzled, as the big lizard wanted to run away as well.
"The animal only wanted to help its fellow species," said Jean Bart.
"Oh, then that was probably the father.", Penguin remarked.
But suddenly a nimble, large shadow jumped out of the undergrowth and towards the lizard.
With a kung fu kick that was worth it, the polar bear Bepo threw the lizard a few meters further. This landed rudely on the side and struck with its spiked tail at its devious attacker. But the polar bear was faster and avoided the attack. Bepo immediately followed up and gave the lizard another blow, this time it seemed to have caught her badly and she went down injured, where she shrank to the amazement of the others.
The six-meter-tall lizard suddenly shrank to the size of a normal iguana and stayed where it was. The animal lay on the ground, breathing hard.
"That's a joke, isn't it?" Said Casquette, stunned, and looked at the lizard.
"What's going on here? What is it taking you so long?", The annoyed voice of Law rang out as he made his way through the bushes.
But his people didn't answer. The surprise that this creature simply shrank in on itself was still too big.
When Law saw the reptile, he raised an eyebrow questioningly.
"The three of you fought a lizard that was just as big and long as a cubit?"
"It was bigger," she defended Bepo.
"Oh?", With a disdainful look he grabbed the lizard by the neck and picked it up. The lizard gave a protesting hiss, kicked its limbs and rowed its long, thin tail, which was almost twice as long as its actual body.
"You look extremely dangerous," he scoffed, holding the animal at eye level.
A threatening hiss escaped the lizard and was he imagining it, or was she giving him an angry look?
"Cute, you beat up a salamander," he turned to his people.
"Salamander? !! PAH !!!", a harsh voice snapped.
The five men looked at each other in amazement and scrutinized in every direction from which the voice could have come.
But then Law crept into a strange suspicion again, he lifted the lizard and examined her amber eyes, which looked at him angrily. After a while, however, he had to grin at his own thoughts, that would be just too ridiculous.
"Why are you laughing at Captain?" Asked Bepo, puzzled.
"I really thought the salamander would speak," he said, amused.
"Again to take notes !! I'm an iguana !!!", the voice snapped again and this time he didn't imagine it, the lizard actually gave him an angry and snatched look.
