Fanfic: Max in Love

Chapter: Coward in the dust

School passed without Max noticing anything. The hours rushed by and after school his friends said goodbye to him almost in a hurry. Everyone was busy with Hilary's assignments and Max decided to continue brooding at home.
When he entered the apartment he could already hear his mother, she seemed to be sitting with his father in the living room and talking to him. "Hello Mum" he greeted them and joined them. The three talked for a while until Max went to his room and started wrapping the box in wrapping paper. Then he threw himself on his bed and stared at the ceiling. It didn't help. Now he really had to worry about it.

After a while, Max had come up with suitable words and looked at the clock. // hmm only at four ... what do you do while this is still going on? // Max got up, went to the shelf and grabbed a CD. While this was being played, he tried to tame his hair and then got something to eat from the kitchen. When the CD started all over again, he grabbed the package with Leena's present and made his way to the training ground.
He arrived there a quarter of an hour early and glanced around. // It doesn't seem to be there yet ... // he thought and headed for a bench in the sun.

Kai, who was there five minutes earlier, was leaning against a wall in the shade and watching his blond friend. He went to a bench and sat down. Kai decided to wait until it was six o'clock.
The gray-haired man thought about the last night, he had hardly slept and all the time he was looking for the reason for his friend's behavior. Meanwhile, the anger rose again in him. He watched Max, who kept looking nervously at the clock and slowly started to move to finally enlighten him.

Max looked nervously at his watch. It was two to six and Leena wasn't in sight yet. The minutes passed painfully slowly, he thought. His knees were jelly now and his heart had slipped into his pants. He had a lot of muffins. His mind was racing and panic spread through him. Ready to flee, he got up quickly and was about to leave when he saw Kai approaching him. "Hello Kai" he managed to say before Kai's fist hit his face. The force of the blow tore him to the ground and he fell into the dirt. "Coward!" Kai hissed at him. Then he helped him get up again. Max held his cheek in shock and pressed in: "I deserve that." out and whispered a quiet thank you afterwards.

Kai went up to his blond friend angrily. Actually he just wanted to reprimand him with a few harsh words, but when he noticed that Max was about to run away again cowardly, he could not and did not want to curb his anger any longer. //That can not be true! He wants to run away. // His steps quickened and his hands clenched into fists. When Max looked at him in amazement and greeted him, Kai reached out and placed his fist in the face of his friend. He furiously cursed Max as a coward.
However, he quickly got a grip on himself and helped his friend to his feet. When Max thanked him for the punch, he knew that his friend had understood it now. Kai looked at his dusty, blonde friend who was trying to brush off the dirt. // How can you be so cowardly? // he thought and saw a small package lying on the floor. Unnoticed by Max, he picked it up and put it in the pocket of his trousers. He was sure that it was a present for Leena and decided to give it to her himself so that she really got it.Kai was not a person of many words and therefore asked his question with just one word. "Why?" he did not look at Max and sat down on the bench. Max sat down next to him and asked: "Why didn't I tell her? Or why I hurt her?" Kai was silent and Max was now sure that Kai meant both. He drew in a sharp breath and began: "At first I wanted to tell her, but Emily got in the way in the park. And on the roof I wanted to try again. But Leena wanted to know why I ran away and I didn't dare telling the truth. I was jealous of Jason and I couldn't just tell her that. Leena didn't rest and I felt cornered. And then it kind of slipped out of me. I didn't mean to say that I was a I have problem with her, but that it only has something to do with her. But my mouth was once again faster than my head and only crap came out. "The blonde now looked at Kai and hoped for an answer. "Your text message wasn't any better either," Max heard. // Wait, Kai was with her last night? Why? So then he wrote the text message. // It shot through Max's head. "Yes you are right." Max admitted meekly. “Why were you with her last night?” Max asked the other question. Kai didn't seem to think twice and replied: "Because you don't have to be related to be a family!" Kai grinned inwardly at the thought of the professor. Because he was exactly right about those words.

Max was satisfied with the words Kais and now stared at the sky, which shone in orange from the sunset. Kai got up from the bench and said to Max: "Can we go?" Max looked confused at his gray-haired friend. "Where?" he wanted to know and Kai replied: "Leena! You don't have to confess your love to her right away if you can't manage it. But you definitely have to come up with an apology." Meanwhile, Kai had already started and Max had none choice but to run after him.
Max knew that Kai was right and willingly followed him to the hospital. His cheek still hurt and he feared another blow if he didn't dare go to Leena. It felt like her older brother was threatening him and warning him not to hurt his beloved sister. // You don't have to be related to be a family? Does that mean Kai and Leena are siblings? No that can't be! // he pondered the last few meters. Then the boys were already standing in front of the door of the hospital room. "Kai, may I ask you something?" Max whispered, looking at the floor. "Hm," Kai agreed and Max continued. “Do you think I'm the right one for you?” Kai turned to Max and seemed to be thinking. // Is that why he's so cowardly? Because he doesn't think he's good enough? // "A coward is definitely not good enough for you. So show me your courage now," answered Kai and knocked on the door to open it shortly afterwards.

Leena was standing in the middle of the room when the door opened and Kai came in. Her hair was still wet from the shower and Kai noticed that she had changed. "Well back from the dead?" he said, amused. Leena tried to smile and replied: "You are back already?" Then she noticed that Kai was in company and could hardly believe her eyes. "M ... M ... Max?" she stuttered and looked at both of them in disbelief.
Max, who had stood uncertainly behind Kai, now stepped forward and in his mind was already forming the words he wanted to say to her, but then Leena's look caused him a stab in the heart. She looked at him as if she was going to cry any minute. // How am I supposed to make amends?I screwed up a lot, maybe it is better if I stay away from her ... She will soon find someone better and ..// Kai interrupted his thoughts by giving Leena a small package. "Here, from Max!" he said and whispered to Max "I'll wait for you outside!" then he left the room and Max was now on his own.

The blond took a deep breath and tried the second time. So that he didn't lose heart again, he decided to get it over with quickly and painlessly. He took three steps towards Leena, closed his eyes and hugged his teammate. Then he whispered, "I'm an idiot! I'm sorry. I have no problem with you! The reason I ran away is very embarrassing to you. That's why I don't want to tell you yet, please understand." He hugged her tighter, afraid she might push him away. Both were silent for a while and no one moved. Then the blonde heard a low voice: “I'm sorry for bothering you so.” Leena pulled away from him and went to her bed. She turned back to him and smiled at him. "Everything is all right again?" she wanted to know from him and Max nodded in relief.
