A long ordeal
The moon shines calmly into the small room
And bathes it in a bright silver shimmer
There is silence in the small room
It cracks softly, but you can hardly hear it
Because shallow and very gentle
The window is opened
An old woman looks out
Your hair is already gray
Suddenly it echoes through the night:
"Have you opened your window yet?
Oh you beautiful fair maiden
Are you ready tonight
let me into your room
instead of in these dark alleys
to sing my songs for you
to bring you some joy? "
It laughs out loud from the window:
"I think I can see ghosts!
It's you again, good Mr. Dorian
I'm always taken with your singing! "
"Do you want to share my bed with me?
that our souls unite?
Swear before the Lord as a witness
To be mine forever? "
Does it sound dull from below
A little bit of excitement
Confusion marks her face:"I don't understand now!"
Dorian pauses a little
And then speaks in a clear voice
"In short, I'll say exactly
Please become my wife "
"Oh dear Dorian, what can I say now
Do you really want me?
My skin is already deeply wrinkled
And slowly my old man wins "
"I've been singing my songs for 30 years,
Night after night, I keep coming back
My lute is already worn out
Many strings broke long ago
I've already written poems in abundance
Will you ever love me
My back hurts from standing forever
So please tell me should I go home? "
A short time of silence
Then breaks the will
Barely visible in the moonlight
A tear rolls down his face
Suddenly he stops in fright
And stares at the opening door
Look out of the frame
His future bride
"I don't want to be like that
I'll let you in tonight
But I want to tell you one thingI am not easy to get."
