Chapter 4: An accident happens
Mute tears ran down her face, her thoughts fluttered confusedly in her head. It was difficult for her to realize all the noises and sounds around her. Everything seemed to go in slow motion. She stepped slowly out of the shrine into the cool, fresh air. It was already evening when Kagome arrived in her time. Without thinking she had jumped into the well and hadn't looked back.
How much her heart longed for Inuyasha, the man she loved. But something stood between them, a woman - a black-haired Miko; Kikyou.
<He's made up his mind, Kagome. There's no point in mourning. You will have to come to terms with it.>
With eyes veiled with tears, she looked up at the window of her room. She thought of the beautiful, soft bed, the familiar atmosphere, the fresh scent of her pillow and the curled up Buyo who had fallen asleep on her bed.
She had to think about all of that, but somehow ... she didn't want to go home. She just left her backpack in the shrine and then headed nowhere.
<Damn it! I missed her ...>, Inuyasha cursed in her mind and looked down into the black fountain. So Kagome was already gone.
He hesitated a moment. Should he really follow her? But he quickly dismissed the thought of simply going back and skilfully jumped into the well.
<Kagome ... I'm coming.>
At this time the streets of Tokyo were busy. Lots of cars were on the way. Without paying attention to the path, Kagome walked down the sidewalk, staring at the ground.
<She was only recently here ...> Inuyasha held up her nose and sniffed. He could still smell Kagome exactly. Her backpack was still in the shrine.
Sniffing the track here and there, he followed her trail.
<Strange ... she didn't go home. > There was no light in her room, nor did her smell bring the hanyou near the house. The trail led him out into the street. He ignored the people staring at him strangely because he kept sniffing.
Since the Hanyou was faster than Kagome, it had covered the way quickly and the dark-haired woman appeared in his field of vision.
"KAGOME !!!" he called when he saw her.
How frozen it stopped.
<That voice ... no ... why is he here? Why is he making it worse? > Without turning around, she ran off.
"Inu Yasha, get out of here !!" she shouted and tears welled up in her big eyes. In order not to have to see the white-haired dog demon, she screwed up her eyes tightly and just ran on.
"Kagome, watch out!" She hears him calling, but she just ignored it. Get away from here ...
Suddenly she was blinded by a bright light. Startled, she opened her eyes and for a split second time seemed to stand still. She saw Inuyasha, who had stopped in shock and was staring in her direction as if spellbound. Many people were stopped too, shouting. Then she saw it too ... big headlights were pointed at her - a car was coming at her at high speed. Your legs feel like they're made of stone. The brunette couldn't move.
Her mouth opened, a scream escaped her throat, she held her hands protectively in front of her face and then everything went dark ...
"KAGOMEEE !!!"

The doctors just looked at him strangely but said nothing. But even if he did, he wouldn't have cared. Now only Kagome counted!
"How bad is it?" Inuyasha asked and had to pull himself together not to go to the collar of the man in the white coat, because he was talking about the bush.
"Well ... we don't know more details yet. I can't say that until we've examined them thoroughly ..."
<Then what have you been doing for the last two hours? >, the golden-eyed man asked himself angrily.
"Presumably it is ..." He followed a few medical terms that the Hanyou did not understand anyway."In other words, your friend will likely remain paralyzed."
WHAT?!
"Say that again!" Inuyasha exclaimed and grabbed the doctor by the collar and picked him up. He choked out incomprehensible stuff and stamped his legs wildly.
When Inuyasha finally put him back on the ground, he rubbed his throat and ran as quickly as possible.
<I don't believe a word ... Kagome will be fine! >, he tried to encourage himself and yet ... he noticed how tears welled up in his eyes. It was all his fault ...
It must have been quite noticeable how he was standing there in the middle of the corridor and staring at a place, because suddenly a nurse spoke to him.
"Is everything ok?"
Without answering, he made his way to Kagome's room. She was in the intensive care unit and actually nobody was allowed to visit her, but he had to see her ... had to explain so many things to her.
When he opened the door silently and saw Kagome sleeping on the bed, it stung his heart deeply. That young girl he loved would probably never walk again ... and it was all his fault. He could have saved her!
As he pressed the doorknob tighter and tighter, silent tears ran down his cheeks. No, Kagome couldn't see him like that ...
Just as he turned to leave, a faint voice said:
"Don't go ... Inu ... Yasha."

He stopped as if frozen. Kagome was awake ?! Very slowly, as if he were afraid of what was behind him, he turned around and felt a strong pain in his heart again.
Big brown eyes looked at him and seemed to pierce him. He couldn't withstand a look like that. He bowed his head and closed the door.
"Kagome ..." he started, but a sob on her part interrupted him. Reflexively he walked over to her bed and sat on the edge of the bed. Kagome straightened up and leaned against her large pillow.
Without saying anything, he put his arms around her and gently pulled her close. The girl didn't return his hug, but she couldn't tear herself away either. She just sat there. She didn't even notice how tears kept falling on her blanket.
"Kagome ...", the Hanyou tried again. "I'm so sorry. I could have saved you from the accident ..."
But this time the brunette interrupted him again, because it wasn't the accident that took her away.
"Stop it, Inuyasha ... I don't want to hear anything now. Just one thing ... answer me a question."
The white-haired man had problems understanding her sentence because she kept sobbing. He looked at her and was afraid of the question. Inwardly, he knew that she would ask about Kikyou. How could it have been otherwise ...?
"Why are you here?"
For a moment the Hanyou blinked in confusion when he heard her question. She hadn't asked for Kikyou !?
"Why do I ...?" That question seemed ridiculous. Kagome knew exactly why he was here. Or ... did she not know?“I'm here because I love you.” He could have given her a thousand explanations now, but that sentence was more than enough to dispel all her doubts. Now she knew who he had chosen ...
Now she really started to cry. Big tears rolled down her cheeks and she buried her face in her hands.
Inuyasha just hugged her tighter. He hated it when she cried. And also because of him.
He didn't have to say more. Everything Kagome was supposed to hear, she had heard. The brunette also didn't seem to want to say anything more and thus the conversation seemed to be over.
The dog demon's gaze wandered to the bedside table, where something glittering lay. Kagome had taken a Shikon splinter?
When he looked a second time, he noticed that it wasn't a Shikon splinter.
"Kagome ... what is that?" He asked softly and pointed with his finger at the splinter. The miko raised her head and followed his finger with her eyes.
"A splinter ..." she breathed."It was supposed to be a present for you, but I dropped the pearl."
So that was what he heard earlier when she ran away. She had dropped a pearl.
He didn't know what to say. Should he say thank you? To apologize? But he decided to be silent.
"The pearl of lovers.", Kagome whispered after a while, when the silence became uncomfortable for her.
The hanyou looked at her inquiringly.
"If it breaks, an accident will happen.", She continued and looked at the many monitors next to her bed. Inuyasha knew what she was getting at.
He felt sick thinking about what the doctor had said to him. Maybe he should tell her ...?
"I don't think that has anything to do with a pearl ..." he said to cheer her up, but his sentence backfired.
"How can you say that?", She said angrily and looked at him indignantly.
His ears twitched when she hit him like that.
"I believe in the story ..." she said a little more quietly and thought of Givera. The legend was true ... of that she was sure!
The half demon really decided not to say anything more. Instead, he listened to what Kagome had to say.
"When I'm out of here, I'll ask my parents that we go on vacation in Italy again ... Then I can ..."
He had stopped listening to her. He stared at her lips, but no words came out. His heart pounded at the thought of what he was going to say to her. He didn't want her to find out from the doctors ...
"Kagome ...", she interrupted his sad voice. The girl looked at him in amazement.
"I don't know how to tell you ..." he started and got even more puzzled looks from her.
"But I don't think you will fly to Italy," he whispered and looked down so she wouldn't see his tears.
"Why not?"
"Because you ... will probably never walk again."
The brunette stared at him in disbelief. She had felt numb in her legs the whole time, but she had suspected that it would go away. Now should she ...? That was impossible!
"Don't worry ..." the Hanyou said, hoping that she didn't see his trembling. "We'll manage it ... you'll be able to walk again!"
Kagome shook his head vigorously.
"First of all, it won't be WE, but ME! If at all ... And second ... I want you to go now." It struck Inuyasha again, but he obeyed.
He got up in silence and went to the door, no longer looking at the woman he loved.
"Don't come visit me anymore, Inuyasha ... I can't stand the sight. Go back to your time !! There is no future for us!" Even if he didn't see her, he knew that she was sure to cry again .
He listened to
