A woman gets to know true love
Again and again the needle bored through the fine fabric. The piece, made of the finest blue linen, was almost finished, only one last star still had to be sewn on.
Lady Cheryl was sitting in the sewing room with two maids.
The sewing room shone in every imaginable color, because different balls of fabric had been spread out everywhere.
The furnishings were very monotonous, everything was made of wood: the chairs, the cupboards and the boxes, the comfort was only supported by a few cushions. Outside the window the first real autumn storm raged and so the people of the castle preferred to stay inside.
Cheryl could sew without having to concentrate, and yet her work was always the most beautiful that others admired her for.Her father, Lord Henning Richemont, took advantage of this and sold her work to other counties for a horrific sum.
Lady Cheryl hated sewing because you had to sit all the time and your legs fell asleep, but for a lady it was all right and she had no choice but to get the job done as quickly as she could.
While Cheryl's fingers were busy sewing and she tried not to pay attention to her aching back, her thoughts wandered to her mother who had been sick in bed for some time. For several weeks she had caught a particularly insidious kind of fever that tied her to the bed so that Cheryl had to run the house.
On the one hand she was worried about her mother, but on the other hand she enjoyed being able to interrupt the chores to make dinner and preparations.
She was also allowed to go into town to do the shopping, which she really enjoyed. The weekly excursions to the large market square and the many colorful market stalls offering various goods became the highlight of the week for them.
The reason for this joy was because she was able to escape her father.
He was a terrible tyrant and once he had drunk he really got going.
Cheryl wasn't the only one who suffered from his brutal debauchery, everyone was afraid of him and tried to do everything to his satisfaction.
A particularly bad incident had just occurred a few days ago.
A maid had dropped a full wine jug in front of his eyes and he had been in a bad mood the whole time and finally found a victim to vent his anger on.
The maid had begged for forgiveness, crying, but he had dragged her into the courtyard and asked for a whip.
He had hit the girl regardless of her pleading.Cheryl just couldn't take it anymore and got in between.
Her father had just stared at his daughter while the bystanders held their breath in shock, no one had ever dared to stop him.
She had stood like that in front of her father for a long time, arms outstretched protectively in front of the maid, who had crouched on the floor, whimpering and bleeding.
Then he grabbed Cheryl by the neck and screamed so loud that everyone could hear
>> Since you absolutely want to play the heroine, you can take the rest of the lashes <<.
Around what had happened, the bystanders drew in their breath in disbelief.
Her father had punished her like this before, but not in public.
He had pushed his daughter roughly to the ground and repeatedly let his whip fall down on her back.
The first blow hadn't been as bad as the second or the third.
He had cracked the whip harder and harder on her back while Lady Cheryl desperately clung to the railing so as not to utter a sound of pain.Nobody dared to speak anymore for fear of being whipped themselves.
Lady Cheryl had tried to hold back the tears, they had literally seen the agony and everyone had been relieved when Lord Richemont finally read from her.
Even now she could feel the burning welts on her back and her hatred for her father grew bigger and bigger. The only thing that kept her here was her mother and her beloved horse, Lunaire, a black mare.
A short cry brought Cheryl to her senses again, a maid had stabbed her finger.
Cheryl finished her work to see if everything had been prepared for dinner in the kitchen. ...
While the meal was being served and the gentlemen were drinking binge with Lord Richemont, Cheryl brought her mother a chicken broth.
Her mother's condition had not improved, so she had to help her with the soup.
As Cheryl re-made the bed, her mother watched her until she finally asked, "How is your back?"I know how hard your father strikes !! <<
Cheryl turned a little red. >> Promise to be more careful! <<
She was still embarrassed to think about it, but she replied as calmly as possible >> Go again. Wasn't that bad! <<
Before her mother could say anything, her father burst in.
You could see clearly that he had already drunk a lot.
Mother and daughter stared at him in fear, and he was particularly irritable in this state.
But he smiled and sat down by his sick wife's bed. >> I have just spoken to Lord Richard Walles! << He looked at us expectantly.
But when we didn't reply, he went on a little less friendly >> He asked for your hand, my child! <<
Cheryl looked at her father in horror. How could he do this to her? This man was older than her father and looked hideous, he had no teeth and hardly any hair on his head. >> Why is he father? I dont want that! He smells horrible and can barely walk properly!<< she almost screamed, she didn't care how he would react, she didn't want to marry this old man.
>> He has everything your heart desires! He has much more land and a lot more riches than I do! You will marry him understood! <<
>> No father! I will never marry this man, you cannot force me to! <<
Now her father jumped up >> Don't you dare contradict me! I guess you need a beating again! << and then he pounced on her.
His fists only hit them where others could not see it.
He knew that it could get him in trouble if his daughter kept walking around with bruises.
His punches were hard and Cheryl tried desperately to free herself, but he kept holding her. Cheryl tried to protect himself with his arms when he let out a short scream and slumped lifelessly next to her.
Cheryl was amazed to see her mother standing over her father with a bronze statue.>> Why did you do that? He'll kill you when he wakes up! <<
>> I can't just stand by and watch him kill you !! Come help me get him to his room! <<
>> Mother, you can't stand yourself, go back to bed, I'll get Ted! <<
My mother went back to bed completely exhausted. It seemed to Cheryl like a miracle that her mother had been able to get up. Just before she got to the door, Cheryl asked >> What do we tell him when he wakes up? <<
>> We just say the stature fell down and it did it by itself! <<
>> And does that work? << Cheryl looked at her mother skeptically.
>> Last time it worked too <<
>> Have you done this before? <<
Cheryl's mother just laughed sadly and pulled the covers over her head. ...
Her father had done everything to make Cheryl's life hell. He had sold her horse Lunaire to strangers and agreed to Lord Walles' proposal that he could marry her next summer. And after a heavy beating, Cheryl had no choice but to submit. She sat in the carriage so stiffly that you could believe she was dead.
She was wearing a very expensive and very elaborate green dress, on which beautiful embroidery could be seen everywhere.
Her brown, waist-length hair had been pulled up into an elaborate hairstyle.
Her golden brown eyes looked glassy and absent.
Cheryl's only worry was her mother, but she would never see her again, since Lord Walle's realm was so far away.
You had been out and about for almost a full day when it happened:
A group of men had been waiting for them behind the trees and were coming so fast that the escort of Cheryl's carriage could no longer react.
Before Cheryl knew it, the door of the carriage was thrown open and several hands pulled her out. She struggled desperately against this huge man, who put her on his horse and hurried away with her.She scratched, bit, and hit him, but he didn't seem to mind in the least. Cheryl couldn't see much of him, she just knew that he had to be a bit older than her and above all he was huge and muscular.
His big hands now held her so tightly that she could hardly move.
She was already completely exhausted and the pain from the last beating overwhelmed her and she passed out.
Cheryl only woke up when her maid, who had also been stolen, splashed some water on her face. Slowly she was able to see everything around her again.
The tall man knelt in front of her and eyed her critically. He had blond hair and bright blue eyes that made it hard not to drown in them.
She struggled to get up, but with the help of her maid she managed.
>> Do you know where you are? << asked the strange giant in a deep but beautiful voice. Cheryl shook her head in denial, which she immediately regretted, which was followed by a sharp headache.>> You are here at Lord Henry Clydon's castle <<
She almost fell over in shock if he hadn't quickly reached out an arm to support her.
Lord Clydon had been Father's enemy for as long as Cheryl could remember.
Their castle had withstood several sieges, but neither of them would give in. Cheryl didn't know why they were enemies and she hadn't dared to ask. But what did the Clydons want from her? Likely to ask for a large ransom or force her father to give up.
>> My father won't give you anything for me, I assure you! << Cheryl said and looked fearlessly into his eyes.
>> Oh I'm sure he wants her back! << said the giant and laughed.
>> Oh yes, and what makes you so sure? << she asked him now suspiciously.
>> You were just on your way to see Lord Walles to marry one of his sons! And if they don't show up there, the groom will be pretty pissed off and demand his rights!<<
>> Wrong I should marry Lord Walles! <<
First he looked at her in
