Chapter 3
“We can go.” Dorra had her pouch strapped to her back and her blanket tucked under her arm.
"Come on, I'll take your blanket." Andre took a step towards her, but Dorra just hissed, "No", turned around and walked in one direction without a clue. She still felt the pain that Andre's words had brought her and didn't want to show any friendliness anymore.
Anger flashed in Other's eyes, but also admiration. "Dorra, you are walking in the wrong direction. This is the one we came from."
"" I know that, "she turned around with her head held high," and which direction are we going? "
"Those," he pointed north, into the woods.
The two walked side by side for the morning and half the afternoon in silence. Dorra's arm hurt like hell, but she didn't want Andre to notice anything. He had his under one arm the whole time and showed no weakness. When they finally took a break in the late afternoon, the tension between the two was tense.
“Have a drink here.” Andre handed the girl a water bottle, which she took without a word. The silence between the two spread again as they both ate the remains of the meat.
"We won't go much longer, then a nice clearing will come and we'll spend the night there."
"OK." She got up and took her things.
"Dorra?"
"Yes?"
“Can you tell me what this is about?” Andre had also got up and walked towards her.
"What?"
"I want to know," he stopped right in front of her and looked into her eyes, "why you are so dismissive."
"Me? You're the one who told me today that he only felt sorry for me. I want to tell you something, Andre, I don't need your pity, any more than your friendliness." She took a step back.
"Dorra." Andre sighed, "I'm sorry." He also took a step and took her in his arms."We can stay here now, do you want that?" He asked quietly and noticed how she nodded. "Then wait here, I'll take a look around and try to find something to eat."
"Andre, I still don't want any pity from you and I'm still angry." She freed herself from his arm, "I'm looking for firewood."
“See you soon, Dorra.” They both disappeared into the forest.
While Andre was looking for something to eat, he thought of Dorra. It was a nice feeling to hold her in my arms, too nice.
"I am not allowed to, she is a princess and I am just nothing." He kept saying to himself, but his admiration had already turned into love.
Dorra suppressed all thoughts of Andre, but the lovely feeling of the embrace persisted in her too.
She already had an armful of wood when they growled this softly. Frozen, she looked up and looked into green eyes that belonged to a wolf.
"oho" she sat up slowly and saw how the wolf tensed and growled again.A scream came from her throat, then she turned on the stele and lost her balance, which saved her life.
The wolf had started to leap at her throat and was now flying over her. Dorra got up in no time and ran as fast as she could. The wolf immediately took up their pursuit. She had no air to scream, she directed all her energy to escape the animal, but he came closer and closer, although Dorra was zigzagging to take off the wolf.
When the wolf had almost reached her, she could already feel her breath, she came up unhappy and bent over, then all she heard was her name, saw something fly and felt nothing.
"Dorra! Hey Karla, are you all right?" Andre sat next to her, with sheer fear in his eyes. He looked for injuries but found none. He exhaled with relief and carried her into the camp, where he had already the meat and water.
“Karla, come to you.” He put a cold rag on her forehead and went quickly to fetch wood so that he can make a fire. When he came back she slowly woke up.
"Dorra, are you all right? Are you in pain?" He was with her in an instant and took her hand.
"The wolf, I have to go, he wants to kill me." There was naked fear in her eyes and she tried to get up, but Andre gently pressed her back on the blanket.
"Keep calm, everything is fine. You are safe." He smiled at her and noticed how her eyes cleared.
"Do you feel any pain?"
“It doesn't matter.” She sat up and this time Andre didn't stop her.
"What does that mean?"
“My ankle, it hurts, but it'll be fine.” Now she was standing, but when she put pressure on her foot she winced painfully and would have fallen Andre would not have supported her.
“I can see that.” He helped her to sit down, “rest and I'll make something to eat”
“You are good at cooking.” After dinner, the two sat around the fire and watched the sun go down.
"Thank you. Is your foot better? Will the cold rags help?"“Yes, thank you.” There was a silence.
"Andre?"
"mh?"
“Is it far to the castle?” She looked at him briefly, but then turned her gaze back to the fire.
"A day or two. Why?"
"Please bring me back, I'm just a burden now, with my foot. I can't walk properly at all."
“Dorra, we don't have to go back.” He turned her face to his and looked into her eyes. Dorra closed her eyes, couldn't meet his gaze. "But we should go back, you were right, I shouldn't be here at all," she whispered.
"You know that we'll never see each other then, princess?" he spoke just as softly as she did.
"Yes."
"Do you want it?"
"No."
"Then why do you want to go back?" he looked at Dorra, how a tear flowed out from under her eyelids, how she tried not to let it show.
"Dorra." He pulled her into his arms and held her until her tears were gone.
"Let's go to sleep, tomorrow is a busy day.""Thanks." She pulled away from Andre, stood up, and grimaced painfully as she put weight on her foot.
“Dorra! What's that supposed to mean?” Andre pulled her down. “Lie down on the blanket and I'll get the other one.” When he came back he lay down next to Dorra and covered them both. "So you don't have to sleep on the cold floor and I can sleep too, is that ok?"
"Yes," she moved closer to him and when he hugged her she was already asleep. "
Andre couldn't sleep, he and Dorra had already been on their way back four days and they were close to closing. He looked down at Dorra, his Dorra whom he loved so much. She moved slightly, getting closer to him. Since the accident, the two always slept under a blanket, he supported them when they walked and took care of the food. But tomorrow he had to leave her, tomorrow they would be in the castle, tomorrow they would part ways.
Carefully he detached himself from her, covered her properly and went to the fire.
"We have them! Here lies the princess. "Suddenly the clearing was full of guards. Some rushed to the girl and the others pounced on Andre.
“We have the kidnapper.” They turned his arm around and took him to the castle, there directly to the dungeon.
Dorra was also brought to the castle and there to the healer who looked at her foot.
“Where's Andre?” Dorra asked the question again, but again nobody paid any attention to it. The door was opened and her father came in.
“Darling, did something happen to you?” He didn't ask Dorra, but the healer. The latter inclined his head and replied: "Yes, Your Highness, she is fine. Her foot is very swollen, but that can be remedied with medicinal herbs."
There was a knock and one of the guards came in.
"Your Highness? The executioner has arrived, you can now pronounce the kidnapper's death sentence."
"No!" Dorra sat up and spoke decisively, "He will not be killed, he did not kidnap me, he saved me, he ...""Karla, darling, the verdict has already been determined and spoken."
"You can't kill him, I let ..."
"Please leave us alone, everyone." they all left the room as quickly as possible.
"Karla, you are a princess. You cannot love a citizen."
"Father, please. He saved my life."
"No Karla, I'll have him killed, tomorrow when the sun comes up he'll lose his head."
"Then at least let me see him one more time."
"Ok, go and say goodbye." He put his hand on hers, "I'm sorry, but it's for the best."
"Andre?" Dorra stood in front of the cell and saw only a shadow in the corner.
“Unlock for me and move away.” She spoke to the guard as she had learned to.
"Princess, you can't go in there, I can't lock you in there."
"Are you going to disobey my orders? Go now and leave us alone." the guard bowed their heads, unlocked them, and left.
Dorra went in and hobbled over to the shadow."Andre?"
"Dorra, what are you doing?"
"I'm so sorry, my father wants you to be cut off."
"What?" he jumped up and paced up and down, cursed and wanted to beat someone up. After a while Dorra said: “I won't let that happen.” She wiped away the tears that were now running down her face.
“How are you going to prevent that?” He had calmed down and accepted his fate and took her face in his hands. "Why are you crying? Don't forget, I am nothing and you are the princess." He put her in his arms and buried his face in her hair.
"You are not nothing, you are worth so much more .." She also snuggled up against him. "Andre you have to kidnap me, then you'll come out of here alive."
"I can't kidnap you."
"You have to," she pulled away from him, "Here," she handed him a knife, stood with her back to him and put his hand with the knife to her throat.
"Dorra, no Karla, why are you doing this? You can't go straight back then. Then you'd have to sleep outside again. "
"It doesn't matter, you mustn't die."
“Why not?” He freed his hand and took the knife away.
"Because ... you saved my life and .."
“And?” He asked, turning her over and forcing her to look into his eyes.
"And ... I just like you. You're not worth the hangman doing the job." She spun around and took a step.
"Dorra? If we can do it, will you stay with me?"
"As long as you want."
"Then forever." As so often before, he turned her around, but he didn't take her face in his hands, but pressed his lips to
