The FF takes place shortly after the party that Kensuke gave for Missato and Asuka
has (Phase 27 -> In the Manga: The Grave Pillar)

A night romance

It was a starry night and the Vollmand shone brightly over Neo Tokyo3.
The party was over and everyone, including Shinji, had been drinking a lot.

They were all messed up on the floor.

It was almost morning when Shinji heard strange sobbing noises
was awakened.
He slowly approached the kitchen from which the noises came. It was Asuka.
Empty beer cans lay everywhere around them. She cried. Shinji got bad
so he left the apartment and went to the park, where he sat on a benchsat and stared at the ground. - He didn't mean to vomit.

He heard something and suddenly someone was sitting next to him. He looked up slowly. Asuka
had joined him. She must have followed him. She put her hand
about his, Shinji got goose bumps and blushed at the same time. But he
did nothing. He just looked at her questioningly and their eyes met. you
leaned forward, closed his eyes, and pursed his lips. Shinji did
the same, although he wasn't so sure what he was doing.

They kissed . What seemed like forever to Shinji didn't even last
a minute. When it ended, Asuka pulled back and for a moment
was silence.

Then she burst into tears and let her head fall into her hands.
Shinji did something he would never have dared sober - he put an arm around her
and tenderly caressed her shoulder.
Asuka put her head on his legs and howled out.

Asuka: "Shinji?"

Shinji winced inwardly.Shinji: "... Yes ?!"

Asuka: "I think ... what I want to say is ... that ... that I ... that
I love you .... that somehow I find you really great ..... "

Shinji looked at the moon.

Shinji: "You're drunk and you're just talking crazy!"

Asuka: "No! ... Please don't interrupt me now, because what I'm telling you
is the truth ... the truth i would never tell you if i were
sober would be ..... namely, that .... that I love you .... that I love you after all
have ... "

She then burst into tears again.

Shinji just looked at her speechless.

Was it really the truth? He didn't really care - he was enjoying the moment.
That little moment that filled his heart with joy and that all torments him
of his life and all the whims that she let out on him.
His heart was pounding very quickly because he didn't know what to do.
Finally he replied: "Asuka, I love you too ..."

She stopped howling, looked up and tried through her tearssmile. Then her head sank back on his legs.

She was calm - had cried herself to sleep. Slowly and carefully pushed
Shinji lifted her head off his legs and gently laid it on the bench.
He wanted to go - wondering what to do now, but she held him
, had clung to him in his sleep.

She opened her mouth and whispered unconscious words: "Don't leave me
alone ..... not you too .... please never leave me alone ..... "

She repeated this sentence over and over until Shinji finally replied, "
I'll leave you ... I'll never leave you alone again! "And at that moment he said
serious and she calmed down again.

"Even if you are mean to me again tomorrow, I still won't let you
alone! "Shinji thought as he carefully picked her up and in his arms
carried the apartment back.

Once there, he put her in her bed and kissed her on the forehead.

Then he covered her and crept into his room.Nobody had noticed - nobody would ever know or believe it and
tomorrow everything would be back to normal except for him.

He couldn't forget that night and dreamed of her to make the whole thing
to process.

Somehow he could understand her. Everyone had left her and she alone
always had to prove so much.

But could she only be honest when she was drunk? Only then could she
go over their pride?

He did not know.....
