"Happy Birthday!"
This call followed her all day; After a while, Sakura had stopped at just nodding in a friendly manner instead of saying thank you very much. She was already too exhausted for that; the whole school, it seemed to her, had already thanked her. Sakura stopped for a moment and looked wistfully at her reflection in one of the window panes. Well, the whole school - except for one. Sasuke had ignored her as always, while Naruto had given her a self-made card, full of exuberance. He was really nice and she was very fond of him, but he was so childish - and above all, so loud.
It was a wonder he and the quiet Hinata were a couple; when Naruto loudly announced it to her about half a year ago, Sakura could not believe it for a short time. Well, she sighed inwardly.Ultimately, we all grow up somehow, even Naruto. Well, at least he was sixteen, like all the members of team seven since today. Ino ran past her and shouted "Happy Birthday, Sakura!" to, then she and Shikamaru had already disappeared around the next corner. Sakura knew the two of them would soon get caught again if they continued to make out behind the school, and for a moment she even felt something like glee. The next moment, however, she was ashamed of how jealous she was.
But it was also really unfair! Everywhere you looked, there were only happy couples to be seen while she was still kissed! It wasn't that nobody had tried it, but Sakura either wanted Sasuke or not, so she didn't get one. Everyone, without exception everyone in their class, had already had the first kiss (and more) behind them, even Sasuke, as Sakura remembered with a touch of bitter laugh.Through a chain of unfortunate circumstances, Naruto had bumped into him and accidentally kissed him ... then she had really pissed Naruto down, but now she was above such childish trifles. Since the Chunin exam, when she was eliminated in the first round, she had given up this childish foolishness and with it the idea of ever meeting Sasuke. Instead of trying to win him over, she had paid close attention to her training over the years, even outside of class. Her hair care had taken a back seat, even though she had long hair again that hung in a braid down her back.
Sakura shook her head and forced herself to get rid of the negative thoughts or at least to tuck them away in the corner of her mind, from where they would only come out at night, when she fell into bed after training, and would keep her from sleeping.Sakura sighed heavily again, then took a deep breath and smiled. The rest of the school day would pass too, and maybe her team would get another mission to distract her from her gloom. She got rid of Choji and Kiba, who both wanted to give her a birthday kiss on the cheek, and spent the rest of the break in the classroom.
