This Saturday was a special day, because today Horo finally met the mysterious girl. It sounded crazy, but he had been very excited all morning. However, it was not the competition that caused him to be upset, but the girl. Even during the drive to "Tokyo Main Park" he still had to think about her, although he had absolutely no idea what she looked like or what her character was. Sitting in the train, he had to think of the beautiful garden again and his joy grew bigger and bigger. He almost forgot to get out, but luckily he woke up from his daydreams in time. He got out quickly and went to the park, which was five minutes from the train station. A large poster hung right next to the large entrance door of Tokyo Main Park, on which was written in red:Due to the Tokyo parks "flower experts" competition, Tokyo Main Park is closed for today. These words reminded him again of the big competition and made his anticipation even higher.Smiling, he walked through the door and spotted many competitors his age wearing different colored headbands with the names of the parks they were competing for. Horo couldn't see the forest for the trees and couldn't find Mr. Takeshi among the crowd. Just as he was about to turn and look in the other direction, a hand grabbed his shoulder.
Tamao was late, which usually didn't happen to her on such important days. But she couldn't sleep that night and had a severe headache. When she woke up it was already 2 p.m. and she hadn't noticed that she had slept so long. She had to get ready as soon as possible and when she left the house it was quite late. So she missed her train and had to wait for the next one, which luckily came ten minutes later. Tired of all the stress that day, she sat down on the train and rested to recharge her batteries for the competition. After a while, Tamao suddenly thought of Horo. She didn't know why, but in her mind she replayed the scene from a year ago when she fell in love with Horo.
It was a sunny day in summer. At that time she was still in eighth grade. One day after school she was walking through the school yard, which she always did because she always looked past the school garden. And as luck would have it, she saw Horo work in the school garden for the first time that day. She had never known before that he was as interested in nature as she was. It was his passion for the flowers that fascinated her and since then she has watched him unnoticed in the garden after school. Even now, after a year, she was still hiding and watching him work. Her feelings for him hadn't changed. And her lack of courage to speak to him also remained unchanged ...
The announcement on the train tore her out of her dream. She looked again at the clock and was shocked to see that she had three minutes until the start of the competition. She quickly got out and ran as fast as she could towards the park. She had to run very fast to get there on time, because the competition meant a lot to Mr. Takeshi and she didn't want to disappoint him. Tamao stepped up a gear, hoping not to be late.
"Mr. Takeshi, you scared me. I've been looking for you all the time."
Mr. Takeshi smiled.
"Sorry Horo, I didn't want to sneak up on me from behind. I was looking for you too. Here in the crowd you really lose track of things."
Recovering from the shock he owed to Mr. Takeshi, he went looking for the girl.
"Where is my partner?"
Mr. Takeshi seemed concerned.
"I don't know. Something has probably come up with her. I hope she comes in time."
"Yeah, I hope so too ..." Horo muttered to himself in a low voice.
Suddenly the loudspeakers rang: "Welcome to the annual" Flower Experts "competition.I look forward to welcoming you all. Before the competition starts, I would like to ask you to register at the tables right next to the main entrance. Each park must have two representatives, otherwise you will unfortunately not be allowed to take part in the competition. After registering, you can then go to the tables marked with the name of your park. I wish you all the best of luck and hope for a fair competition. "
"How can we not register yet, we are missing a participant. What should we do now, Mr. Takeshi?"
"We'll wait a moment and can only hope that she comes in time."
The registration desk emptied slowly and apart from two other parks only the "green meadow" was missing. Mr. Takeshi became very nervous and could not stand still. When only his park was missing, he lost hope and knew that Tamao would not make it in time.
"Horo, we can no longer take part in the competition ..."Suddenly he was interrupted.
"Wait, Mr. Takeshi!"
Out of breath, Tamao ran through the entrance door to the park and stopped right in front of her team. Mr. Takeshi's mine brightened suddenly.
"Tamao! I thought you weren't coming anymore ..."
"E-it is ...", Tamao said, panting, "I'm sorry ... I didn't feel well that night and that's why I overslept today."
"Are you feeling better now?" He asked worriedly.
"Yes everything is okay."
With all the stress, she hadn't noticed that anyone other than Mr. Takeshi was standing in front of her. But when she was able to breathe normally again, she noticed the look and looked up. Immediately she was breathless again.
"Horo, this is Tamao Tamamura and Tamao, this is Horo Usui."
Both Horo and Tamao made no sound. Both were totally confused and didn't know what to say.[i]What ?! Is she the mysterious girl? Horo was still staring at her while Tamao blushed as a tomato and looked at the ground. However, they didn't have much time to say anything, as Mr. Takeshi told them to register. Still surprised, they did what he said and went to their table, which said "Green Meadow". Mr. Takeshi gave each of them a green headband with the logo of his park on it. Standing in front of the rows of tables was a middle-aged man who was the organizer of the competition and also the owner of Tokyo Main Park, Ken Minoru. He was wearing a dark blue suit and had a microphone in one hand. Mr Minoru briefly introduced himself and explained the rules.
"Since you've all signed up, we can start with the first round. I'm going to ask you all sorts of questions about flowers that the group that first pressed the red button in the middle of the table can answer. In this round Speed and knowledge are required: for every correct answer ten points are awarded, for every wrong answer ten points are deducted from the group. If the group answered the question incorrectly, all other teams may try to give a correct answer. Are there any more questions? If not, I'll start with the questions. "
He glanced over the tables to make sure nothing was unclear to anyone. Then he opened the competition with the first question.
"What is the scientific name of the squill?"
Horo and Tamao couldn't concentrate, their emotions were too mixed up. But they both knew that the competition meant a lot to Mr. Takeshi, so they tried to pull themselves together. Tamao knew the answer and was just about to press the red button when she suddenly touched Horo's hand, which was also moving towards the button, as Horo also knew the correct answer. As if struck by lightning, they both withdrew their hands at the same time. Tamao's face turned red and the contact with Horo caused a tornado in her. Horo's thoughts were also somewhere else, because he still couldn't believe the fact that Tamao was the mysterious girl.Suddenly there was a noise that came from the team next to them. The opposing group had pressed the red button.
"Scilla!" A group member called to Mr. Minoru.
"The answer is correct!" He said happily.
The number ten immediately appeared on the scoreboard at this team's table. But Horo and Tamao were still unable to think clearly. The numbers on the scoreboards of the opposing teams got bigger and bigger, while in the park "Green Meadow" only the zero could be seen ...
