One shot

"Hello! Are you going to buy flowers for your girlfriend again today?"
"Yes," he said with a smile, "I would like a bouquet of immortelles."
The flower seller wrapped the red and yellow Immortellen in a transparent film and wrapped a red ribbon around the stems to match the flowers.
"Please. Your friend will surely be happy about the beautiful Immortelles."
"Yes, I think so too. Thank you very much."
He handed her the money and said goodbye in a friendly manner. As he stepped out into the street, he checked his watch. He was relieved to find that he had ten minutes left because he had made an appointment with his girlfriend at two o'clock. It didn't take long to get to their well-known meeting point. He passed the street quietly and discovered some lovers whose faces were beaming with happiness. Soon it would be the same for him and his girlfriend. With this thought he crossed the intersection and immediately the large white building, which was already more than familiar to him, stretched out in front of him.He opened one half of the double doors to enter when the familiar smell rose to his nose. The many people there, whom he saw almost every day, hurried from one place to another. Some of them were dressed in white, while the others weren't. Without paying special attention to them, he went to the elevator and went to the second floor. Now it was only a few steps to his girlfriend. On the way there, the people dressed in white greeted him because they already knew him very well. Suddenly he stopped in front of the door at the end of the hall. She was waiting behind this door, he thought. He quickly adjusted the Immortellen and took a deep breath before slowly opening the door and stepping into the room.
"And how are you today? I brought you beautiful immortelles," he said as he took the bouquet off. Then he continued: "I'll open the curtains, otherwise you won't be able to enjoy the sun."
After he went to the window and pushed the curtains aside, he sat down on the chair next to the bed on which his girlfriend was lying. He brushed a strand of hair that looked gold in the sunlight from her face and took her cold hand. Her face was pale, but all he remembered was her warm smile and crystal blue eyes, which he had last seen two years ago.
"Do you know why I bought Immortellen of all places?" He asked - without receiving an answer. "Immortellen stand for ..." He left his sentence unfinished when he suddenly heard the beeping of the heart monitor. He looked at the display and panic seized him. The number was falling at a breakneck pace. He quickly pressed the red button on the wall to call the doctor. While her heart was beating slower and slower, his heart threatened to explode at any moment. He didn't even notice that the doctor was already in the hospital room and the nurse pushed him out of the room. The last thing he saw before the door closed was his girlfriend's body heaving from the defibrillator. The minutes in the hallway were like hours to him. He paced nervously, waiting any moment for the doctor to come out and tell him everything was okay. His body was covered in sweat and his hands clenched in fear. Suddenly the door was opened.
"W-how is my girlfriend?" He stuttered from his lips.
The doctor looked at the floor in silence and there was a moment of silence. The atmosphere was depressing. Still drenched in sweat, he waited impatiently for an answer.
"I'm sorry. We did our best, but the patient's heart stopped," said the doctor quietly, while he put his hand on the boy's shoulder and then left him in the hallway.
He paused in the hall for a few minutes before stepping into the hospital room. With slow and weak steps he moved towards the bed. His hand brushed the white cloth that covered the lifeless body of his friend. As if in a trance, he freed her pale face from the white material and touched it with the other hand. He felt cold and loneliness. Everything around him was silent. The sky darkened as the clouds blocked the sunlight. Outside rain fell from the sky; tears flowed inside. Even heaven cried. He sank to the ground. His heart contracted in pain. Suddenly he looked up. Only now did he notice the immortelles lying on the floor. They must have fallen off the table, he thought. He picked up an Immortelle and propped himself up on the edge of the bed. He looked at her with a faint smile.
"I haven't even told you why I bought Immortellen, of all places," he said quietly and placed the flower on the white pillow next to her head. "Immortellen stand for eternal love ..."
