The night was short after that. She got up and went off to her business as a chu-nin. Sasuke awoke in her bed and stared around. Isame was gone. He stepped outside. It was a beautiful sunny day and the birds were chirping. He always loved that sound. Then he got in his clothes and only hoped she would be home when he came.
"I hope Nii-chan will be home ..." And with that he set off to the academy to start his training. He was early again.
"Hello Sasuke how was your night?" Iruka came to him and smiled.
"Great thanks." He smiled and took his seat, then realized he wasn't the only one in the room. There on the other side of the window was none other than Isame, and she was watching him.
"Sasuke, have I mentioned your sister will be a chaperone today?"
“Really?” He smiled. He was happy that his sister would watch him. He knew she would be proud of him.
She came in and walked slowly over to Sasuke.
"Hello there little brother."
"Nii-chan what are you doing here?"
"Iruka-sensei let me be a chaperone today for the test because I am a chu-nin and he asked me to try to catch anyone cheating." She smiled and winked at him. Sasuke could only smile.

After everyone arrived, Isame took a seat and watched the ever-so-quiet test takers. They were, as Isame thought, following all the rules of taking tests and then she caught a boy named Nara Shikamaru cheating off the paper of Akimichi Choji. She informed Iruka about it and sat back down.
Sasuke turned his paper over.
"That was fast ..." "Isame thought and simply smiled. It was amazing that he had finished already, and by the look on his face Iruka was also pleased.

After everyone had finished (which was a good while later) Iruka handed the answer key to Isame and asked her to go over the questions and answers. Only two people got all of them right and only one got them all wrong. The two right ones - Uchiha Sasuke, and Haruno Sakura, an exceptionally good student who Isame knew had a huge crush on her little brother.Flashback

"Isame we have to hurry! Our little shopping trip took longer than we wanted it to!" It was the night of April 23rd, that very ... horrible ... night.
Uchiha Isame and Uchiha Sasuke were coming back from a "little bit too long" shopping trip. There they were, frantically running to their clans' mansion, and when they got in, it was quiet. Too quiet. The lights were off, and that made Sasuke skeptical. Then he said to Isame, "Nii-chan, why are the lights off?"
"Sasuke ... I don't know ..." She easily opened up a door. No one was there. They ran farther into the mansion and got to their part of the house.
"Mother, Father, we're ho-" Sasuke stopped when he saw them ... the corpses. So many of them. He was only a boy of 5 and ran over to Isame and cried into her leg. The corpses were their aunts and uncles, their brothers and sisters ... and then they saw the corpses of their parents ... and behind them the killer of everyone ... Uchiha ......... Itachi.

Flashback end

That day when Isame and Sasuke walked home together they thought again about that day. It still hurt them to think about it even though they never knew what had caused Itachi to want to become so powerful.
It was also a special day for Isame the next day because she had a chance to become a jou-nin. She was only 13 and was, in her fathers' eyes (while he was still alive), almost just like Itachi. He was also jou-nin at 13. Her father was always saying another version of the thing he said to Itachi. Instead of "That's my boy" he would tell her "That's my girl". It was upsetting for Isame to not be acknowledged by family.
"Nii-chan ..."
"Yes Sasuke?"
"Tonight ... I hear there's going to be a huge storm ... will we be okay?"
"I'm sure we'll be fine. And if there is lightning and thunder," she knew he was afraid of it, "you can come into my room if you feel safer there."
Sasuke smiled and kept walking. She was always there for him. He loved her more than anyone. Sasuke never had feelings for girls. He hated almost every girl.Every one except Isame.

When they got home there were three mail items. One package for Isame, a confirmation letter for the jou-nin exams, and a letter for them both. That was strange. No one else ever sent Isame and Sasuke a letter. There was no sender.
"Hmm, I wonder who this is from." They walked into the kitchen and opened the letter.

Dear Isame and Sasuke,

I wish to apologize to you both. I.
want to return to you to be the big
brother I always wanted to be. You
know I love you both. Ich liebe dich
both so much. I just want to come
back and see you. see your faces.
I miss your voices. Please let me
come back ... only for a while ... or you
could let me stay forever and I will
always be with you ...

At that point Isame's heart clenched and Sasuke watched her clench her fists until you could see her white knuckles.
"Nii-chan ... what will we do?"
"Sasuke ... I don't know. Will we let him back? Or will he stay away?"
"Why don't we think it over tonight? And decide in the morning?"
"Yes ... good idea-" She was stopped by a loud flash and a clap of thunder. Sasuke dug his face into her stomach and hugged her. Hey was scared.

he storm lasted throughout the night. Sasuke was terrified because they turned the news on and heard 16 people had already been hit by lightning and died. So again, Sasuke stayed in Isame's room and slept alright besides the fact that he was scared. Isame knew he would stay with her so she simply had him lay down next to her and she stroked his hair. A few hours later when the lightning subsided but the rain didn't let up he was already asleep.
The next morning was as fresh and dewy as any other besides the air being cleaner than most days. Sasuke woke up alone and knew right from the minute he woke up that Isame was off doing her Chu-nin stuff. So he made himself some breakfast and set off to the academy.He hoped she would be home as early as she had been the last few days. After a whole day of training he walked home slowly only to hear two voices in the kitchen. His sisters', and a deep voice he just couldn't seem to recognize. He decided not to look and said to himself, "Isame probably brought a guy home or something ..." but that wasn't even close to what that voice really was, it had nothing to do with Isame having a boyfriend. So a little later he decided to look, because that voice has planted the seed of suspicion so deep in his heart he had to know who it was. He walked in and saw Isame cooking and someone sitting at the table. Unfortunately, the person's back was to Sasuke so he couldn't see who it was.
"Hello Nii-chan." He said.
“Oh, hi Sasuke.” She smiled.
"Watcha 'doin'?"
"Cooking dinner."
"Cool." Then he asked. "Who's your friend?"
"Oh, you haven't seen him yet. Sorry." She gave him a smile and snuck up behind the person. She gave him a tap on the shoulder which must have scared him pretty bad, judging by his facial expression.
"WHA? HUH WHAT ?!"
Sasuke giggled. The way the person reacted was funny. Lucky he didn't see the person's face, because he wouldn't have been laughing. So as soon as they were all done laughing a minute later, they all looked at each other. But when the person's face met Sasuke's eyes, he glared. It was no one less than ... the killer of his clan ... his brother ... Uchiha Itachi.

"Itachi ... why have you come BACK?!?!?!?!?!"
Isame staggered back and hovered for a moment. Never had she heard him yell like that.
"Little brother ... you do no want me back?" He frowned.
"Only if you apologize."
"What?"
"Only if you apologize."
"Ok. Sasuke ... I'm sorry." Itachi leaned in and gave Sasuke a hug. Sasuke immideately started crying and hugged him back. Isame smiled and joined them. Their three-person family was back together again.

The next morning Isame woke up and Itachi was standing over her.
"You look like an angel when you sleep you know.""Thanks Itachi ..."
"You're welcome." He helped her up. "Sasuke's already up. He said he wanted to visit a friend and walk her to school.
“Her?” Isame smiled. "How cute. I guess his time has come, eh?"
"It's very possible."
"Today I have off ... so you can help me with fixing up the house. I always needed a strong pair of hands around here."
"It would be my honor Isame-chan."
“Oh Itachi, stop it!” She said fondly. Itachi smiled and let his mind wander off while they cleaned the house.
Later that day ...
"Nii-chan! Nii-sama! I'm home!"
"Hello there Sasuke." Isame gave him a hug the minute he walked in.
"Hi Sasuke." Itachi came out of the kitchen and walked to them.
"The house looks cleaner."
"Yes, Itachi helped me clean today."
"That's nice."
"Yes it is."
