of me.
My heart began to pound violently and I felt fear rise within me.
Even though I was sure that Michael was good at handling the sword, there were two of the men.
I turned pale when I remembered with horror that Michael wasn't there with his sword. He had attached it to Nox's saddle together with my bag, the bag was here now, but the sword hadn't been there.
I felt sick with fear, we were as good as death.
The men laughed, they glanced up at the sky and grinned briefly, then they tossed their swords carelessly aside.
Confused, I continued to look over Michel's shoulder at the two of them. What were they going to do?
Without taking his eyes off the two men, Michael took the bag and laid it on the floor.
He now looked up at the sky too, but then looked again at the men.
"Claire, run back into the cave. After a while there is a passage to the right, lock yourself in there somewhere." He said.
I nodded obediently, but only took a single step back into the cave, shaking, I was barely able to move.
The men looked up again at the sky, and Michael looked up again.
I followed her gaze as well, the full moon just appeared over one of the mountain tops.
“Run!” Michael said, but my legs were frozen to the ground when I saw what happened next.
The men's bodies changed, dark fur began to sprout on their arms and spread over their entire bodies, their hands became paws with huge claws, they grew, their clothes torn and finally they looked very much like a wolf, by recognizing human traits nonetheless.
Michael had changed too, but his clothes weren't torn like the men's, they were almost fused with his black fur, and besides, he looked perfectly like a wolf (albeit a larger than average wolf), it wasn't them to recognize the slightest human traits.
Michael turned to me and growled deeply, finally I managed to turn around and run away.
A few seconds later I heard another low growl, then a whine, and finally I heard something follow me. I ran as fast as I could without falling in the dark, the whole time my eyes searched the cave wall for the passage Michael had spoken of.
I finally spotted him, I ran in and saw something hit me out of the corner of my eye, but it missed me because I was in the corridor. I ran on through the corridor which was a lot narrower here.I still heard footsteps behind me, but finally I reached a door.
I ran through, slammed it, and pulled the bolt. Then I ran on, from outside I heard deep growls again, and it sounded like there was fighting out there.
I kept walking and when I reached another door I slammed it and pushed the bolt again.
I continued to walk to the end of the hallway and looked around.
In one of the cells in this room that were locked with bars, Nox was standing nibbling on the straw from a mattress. I was glad to see him, but at the moment the fear just predominated.
I went into the same cell and shakily closed the bars, the whole thing looked a lot like a prison to me. I listened to noises from outside, I heard a quite loud bang, apparently they were through the first door. I looked at the door, backed away from the bars until I was right against the wall.
Moments later, I heard them break open the door too. Nox now also looked in the direction of the door, he seemed to be at least as scared as I was.
A figure appeared in front of the bars, I backed away even further, but of course it had already noticed me. I was terrified and pressed myself against the cold stone wall, but of course that didn't really help me to get away from this monster.
I heard another low growl and Michael emerged from the darkness as well. He growled deeply and menacingly. The werewolf turned away from me and lunged at Michael with a low growl. This dodged with a jump to the side, then he jumped at the werewolf, his claws dug into the werewolf's chest and he snapped at his throat. However, the werewolf knocked him aside with his paw, he flung him straight against the stone wall. Michael remained motionless.
I gave a startled cry and looked at him, but then the werewolf moved in front of my field of vision so that I couldn't see Michael anymore. The werewolf threw himself against the bars, but they didn't give in. Not yet. It was only a matter of time before he destroyed it I realized with horror.
I could now look at Michael again, he was just getting up, but he looked pretty battered.
When the werewolf threw himself against the bars again, he jumped from behind on his shoulders, his claws dug deep into the werewolf's shoulders and blood splattered as he struck his fangs into the werewolf's neck.
The werewolf tried to shake him off, but Michael held on. He only let go when the werewolf threw himself and with it him against the wall.
Immediately, however, he was back on his feet, and pounced on the werewolf again with a deep growl as the werewolf was straightening up again.
the werewolf threw himself forward and buried Michael under himself, I heard a howl, but I couldn't see exactly what happened next.
Finally the werewolf's head jerked back, there was a cracking noise, then the werewolf collapsed and everything was quiet.
I continued to look there, finally the werewolf moved again, but not on its own as I found out, because Michael crawled out from under him.
He hobbled towards us, looked at me briefly, then just lay down in front of the grille and looked at the door.
I hesitated for a moment, then went to the gate to open it. But I flinched when Michael turned his head in my direction, pulled up his lips and growled softly.
Then he got up, he put his ears close to his head and continued to growl and look at the door.
I heard a growl from further away, but I couldn't see anything as it was quite dark in here despite a small window.
Michael, however, rushed forward and he too disappeared into the darkness.
I heard a howl, then his claws clacking on the floor, then I only heard growling and hissing, but finally I heard a noise as if something big, heavy hit stone, then I heard Michael's claws clacking softly again, but it was moving away from here.Confused, I continued to look into the darkness.
It was completely quiet now.
The only noises that could be heard were nox 'and my breathing.
It stayed so quiet for several minutes, but then I heard a grinding noise and the soft clacking of claws on the rock floor. After a while Michael emerged from the darkness again, he had a strap of my backpack in his mouth and dragged it along.
I ran to the bars and opened it, this time he didn't growl but just padded into the small cell with hanging rod and hanging head.
He was really limping, his fur was sticky with blood, I wasn't sure much of it was his own.
I took the backpack and closed the gate again, when I turned to him he was curled up on the straw mattress, his head was resting on his front paws and he continued to look at the hallway, apparently not convinced that it was just these two werewolves had been.
I went over to him hesitantly and sat down next to him on the mattress.
Michael raised his head briefly and looked at me, then licked my hand briefly and then laid his head on my lap.
I looked at him a little confused, but then decided that was meant to be encouraging.
I didn't know why myself, but I wasn't afraid of Michael. On the contrary.
Now that he was back, I immediately felt a lot safer.
Finally Michael closed his eyes, he seemed to have lost consciousness and after a moment his body began to change again, and finally Michael was lying next to me again as I knew him.
I looked down at him, he was even paler than usual and that he was covered in blood could only now be seen really clearly.
He really didn't look good, his breathing was pounding.
I carefully pulled off his cloak to see how badly he was injured.
I also took off his shirt carefully, I was shocked to see that his whole upper body was full of deep scratches and bite marks.I carefully washed the wounds with water.
As I was about to bandage them, Michael suddenly grabbed my wrist.
I hadn't even noticed that he had woken up. Michael looked at me for a moment, then let go of my wrist and let himself fall back.
He took a few deep breaths before sitting up again, removing the bandages, and bandaging himself. I watched him do it, it looked pretty routine, it almost seemed like he did it a lot.
"Thanks ..." I mumbled, no doubt he had saved my life earlier. I wondered how many times he was doing this.
Michael looked up from the bandage and looked at me.
The corners of his mouth twitched briefly and a tiny smile formed on his lips, but then he turned away again without saying anything and continued to bandage his wounds.
I looked at the man's corpse, I hadn't noticed that he had changed again, but now he was back in human form, although he was not wearing any clothes because they were torn when he had changed.
I looked away again and looked at Michel. He silently continued to bandage his wounds, which were still bleeding a little and looked quite painful, but Michael didn't show anything.
After a moment I got up and went to Nox.
I took the saddle from him and went to a wall to put it there.
I gave a startled scream when a skull lay there and I almost dropped the saddle. Apparently this really used to be a kind of prison.
"Why are you afraid of the dead, of all places? It is precisely them who do not harm you." His voice was gentle and pleasant as usual. You couldn't hear any pain. I turned to him and looked at him, but he didn't seem to be expecting an answer because he had just turned to his calf and bandaged it. I shrugged and put the saddle against another wall. Then I took off Nox's bridle and put it on the saddle.
I sat down next to Michael, who had just finished bandaging himself, he washed the blood off his hands, then he put his shirt on again and he put his cloak on again.
I looked at him in silence
