When I came out of the small cave, almost the whole pack was in front of the cave. They weren't happy about my decision. The wolf demons and the mountain wolves had once lived together peacefully, but at some point there was an argument between the leaders. The point was that there was not enough food for both tribes in their area. So the pack split up, the mountain wolves moved to another area, while the wolf demons stayed. That was 200 years ago. There are now a lot of wolf demon packs, but only one mountain wolf pack.
My great-grandfather made this decision back then, but nobody has regretted it to this day.
But where this contempt for the wolf demons came from was a mystery to me.
I was startled out of my thoughts when a gray wolf stepped forward and said what everyone was thinking. “What do we do with him now?” I looked up at the blue sky and answered without looking at him. “I will take care of him until he is healthy again.” A whisper went through the group, then Lena stepped forward a rust-red wolf. "And then? Do you want to keep him here, in the pack?" You could hear the disgust at this word. The other wolves didn't seem to like this prospect either.
I looked at the pack and smiled. “Don't worry, as soon as he's healthy I'll bring him to his pack.” The wolves relaxed and some even sat down. But Lena still had a question that bothered her hard. "How are you going to bring him back to his pack? Do you want to leave our home and leave the pack without a leader just because of this ... traitor!"
Now everyone was restless as this almost sounded like an accusation. I let my gaze wander and saw something appear on the other side of the clearing, I smiled and answered. "Do you want to tell me what I have to do and what not? I am the pack leader and can entrust the pack to my representative for a short time, or do you mean that Luna cannot lead and protect the pack?"
There was a menacing growl from across the clearing, the sand-colored wolf having bristled fur, ready to defend its place. Everyone knew that Lena had gone too far, she had not only tried to accuse the ringleader of something, now she had also questioned the position of the deputy.
But Lena was smart enough to react properly without a fight breaking out.
She lay down as a sign of inferiority.
"That would be done with that, or does someone else object?"
The pack knew the decision was made and accepted the ringleader's decision. So two days passed in which I looked after the wolf demon, but also followed the duties of the pack leader. I was starting to worry that he should have woken up long ago. I was changing the bandage when Rico came to me. "Saria! Hurry!"
" What's happening?“I was on my feet immediately.” A pack of wolf demons has entered our area, they have already injured two of us! "I looked down at the unconscious wolf demons. Were they looking for him? Or are they just trying to annoy us?
I said to Rico. "Nobody should attack them, I will clarify that. Rico calls the wolves back to fetch the food and stay with the burrow. Nobody is allowed to come near him."
Rico nodded and ran. I stepped outside with quick steps. Lucie, Luna and three other wolves were already waiting for me there. I got on Lucie and we made our way to the north-east. It wasn't long before I heard the battle cry. What a bummer, apparently they are not in a peaceful mood. We rushed through a few bushes and stood in a clearing, the pack of wolf demons was big but not so that we couldn't defeat them.
But I wanted to avoid a fight, four of my colleagues were bleeding from many wounds.
When the wolves of the enemy army attacked again, I intervened.
“Retreat, everyone to me!” My pack obeyed immediately and with one leap jumped out of the danger zone. I got off Lucie and spoke. “I don't want a fight, who is the leader of your pack?” A young man stepped forward. "That's me, my name is Kouga, I lead this pack."
I just nodded. “What do you want in our area?” “Quite simply, apparently you took one of us off, we followed its smell to your limit. And we want to know what you did with it!” So I was right, it was his pack. I smiled and answered calmly. "Take it easy, we didn't do anything to him. I found him badly injured at our border. I took him to look after him, I didn't mean any harm to you."
The leader didn't seem convinced so I made him an offer.
"I'll lead you to him if you want, but your pack please stay outside."
Luna growled and gave me a worried look. I knew that she didn't like to let a wolf demon so close to our den. But I ignored their warning.
"Okay, but I won't go with you completely defenseless." He looked at us a bit grimly.
He waved to two people and they followed him. I just nodded. And sat down on Lucie again.
So we made our way ahead of Lucie and Luna, then the wolf demons and finally a black wolf. The others should take care of the injured.
