years now, there had been doubts, and of course anger, but in the end Teddy knew that only he would have the chance to end this story for everyone.
Taking a deep breath - still smiling forbiddingly - he put his hand down to the old gentleman. And after all this time, Teddy was sure that he could feel the hand on his shoulder right now. The circle should come full circle, and even if no one who was alive understood, his parents would understand. He felt their ghosts behind him and did not wait any longer for a reaction from his counterpart. He had waited too long for it. Too long. And he was sure that the words floating between them would still find their sound today - as soon as Teddy had done his part.
The old man visibly stiffened when Ted touched his hand, carefully at first to wait for an objection - but then he loosened his cramped hand from the walking stick, put his second around it and helped the old man to get up.
"Come on! As you said, it was a long time ago, nobody will remember you like that."
It wasn't far. The wall, the magical transition, came towards them quickly, even if they walked slowly so as not to rob the old legs of all their strength. A slow pace. Teddy was only too aware of who he was holding by the hand, with which flames he was playing cat and mouse. His heart couldn't calm down, it was electrifying. The world had stopped turning for this path, the generations merged, made history appear in a different light. The heavy breathing stopped as they stopped in front of the bricks, the gasping for air had become insignificant things. The blue eyes twitched back and forth between his own hand, by which Teddy was leading the man, his face and the wall. And Ted couldn't describe whose heart was beating faster.
"Just two steps."
The world was colorful.
It was just shining.
The colors shimmered in all facets - black and white went out. The old body tightened, his hand had started to shake. The stick fell to the floor with a clatter as he took another step towards the red locomotive, which at that moment was peeling out of the smoke like a monument of old days. Nobody likes to say what was going on in the old gentleman's mind at that moment. Nobody. Nobody but Ted Lupine. Carefully he let go of the scarred hand and followed the man's first breaths in the new world of colors. Smiling, he crouched down to pick up the walking stick from the floor before sneaking to the side of the man, who in the meantime had pulled his hatched hat from his head so that his trembling hands could hold something. The hair had moved from his head, forming only a light circle on the side of the skull, interrupted by the scars where the hair had never grown back.
On the platform there was the usual din and hum of wizards, witches, owls and frogs, laughing children and sniffing parents. Everyone busy loading suitcases and kissing the children goodbye, laughing and throwing themselves into the arms of old friends. And on the edge of everything, on the edge stood an old man with blue eyes, the dreamed image of his childhood in front of his eyes. He felt young, he felt safe. Nobody had ever been able to make him feel that way, nobody, even if he was forever searching for his justice. Always searching for this moment.
And only Ted Lupine could see the blue eyes seeing the horror they had spread. Only Ted Lupine could see that the regret and pain that had gripped the man's heart for several years now filled it completely. The blue eyes were no longer cold, no longer blood-hungry. They reflected childhood dreams and the desire for the end. The end of a generation.
"I am ashamed."
Teddy stepped in front of him, walking stick in one hand as he extended his free hand.
So that was him. The moment. The blue eyes flickered from the outstretched hand to the amber eyes and they felt years back. The night that had changed everything fell on her mind as the old man took Ted Lupine's hand.
"Your father's eyes are ..."

No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
